This past Monday in our citizen’s
police academy class, Retired Traffic Officer Mark Niedbalski was more than
happy to return and share his traffic knowledge. In this class, a hot topic was
the current two methods of traffic monitoring being used, radar, and laser.
Officer Niedbalski explained how these devices measure one’s speed by bouncing
radar waves or bursts of laser light received from their vehicle and back to
the gun. Niedbalski elaborated on how these devices calculate the change in
distance traveled over a certain area, and that information in return
determines their speed.
